The Institute of Engineering and Technology (IET)

The global headquarters for engineers situated within the Savoy Conservation area next door to the Savoy Hotel. Considered a significant heritage asset to the conservation area which required thoughtful and delicate intervention to the existing building and alterations to the Thames facing façade.

The project focus was to strip back a series of small rooms and narrow corridors and provide new lounge spaces, restaurants, cafés, a library and an additional auditorium. Key challenges with the project were having two auditoria sandwiched between plant rooms – the resulting acoustic measures were onerous. Weaving a new ‘table’ structure into the unused central atrium was key to unlocking the unused potential within the existing building. Delivered with Pringle Richards Sharratt Architects.
